Project Description

This multi-family residential complex in Upham’s Corner, Boston, prioritizes community engagement and access to sunlight. The entire ground floor is dedicated to open, flexible space for residents and the neighborhood, fostering social interaction and connection. Vertical openings channel natural light into the ground floor and exterior hallways, reinforcing a sense of openness. The design integrates coworking spaces, exterior balconies, and communal areas, creating a sheltering yet inviting environment that strengthens community ties through shared spaces and abundant daylight.

Section A

Shade is often a luxury in low-income neighborhoods, where open space is provided without considering protection from the elements. This building offers both shade and shelter while carefully integrating moments of sunlight that shift across landscaped seating, encouraging movement and engagement throughout the site.
